SJ Beard and Gideon Futerman are hosting a workshop on Managing the Contribution to Global Catastrophic Risk from Climate Change and Solar Radiation Modification. The workshop will critically reflect upon the results of a participatory futures exercise looking at possible forms of SRM governance, how they could emerge, and how they might respond to a variety of subsequent global events, including catastrophic climate change and other existential hazards.
Over the course of two days, they will discuss the results of the exercise and what they can learn from it, both about possible SRM futures and the state of the current discourse.
The workshop will focus on three key areas:
- The variety of governance models that emerged and the factors that drove this diversification;
- The range of global events that were experienced and how different SRM governance models might have responded to these;
- What the long term trajectories of these (or similar) futures might be and how we can evaluate the overall level of existential and global catastrophic risk in each of them.
