Leo Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina begins: “Happy families are all alike; every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way.” This invite-only workshop explores whether it’s possible to compare societal collapses and build predictive models, or whether each collapse is “unhappy in its own way”.
This workshop comes before a public lecture from Professor Jared Diamond on Wednesday 28th February. He is a Professor of Geography at UCLA, and the Pulitzer-Prize-winning, best-selling author of Guns, Germs & Steel and Collapse: How Societies Choose to Fail or Survive.
This workshop was part of the Hauser-Raspe Workshop Series at the Centre for the Study of Existential Risk.
