Lord Martin Rees, CSER co-founder, a Fellow of Trinity College and Emeritus Professor of Cosmology and Astrophysics at the University, had been awarded the Royal Society’s Copley Medal for sustained, outstanding achievements in any field of science.
The Royal Society explained Martin Rees had been awarded the medal "...for being arguably the most distinguished theoretical astrophysicist of his generation, responsible for numerous and varied conceptual breakthroughs, with influence spreading far beyond the specialist academic community."
