Shahar Avin will lead a new grant programme from the UK Government and the AI Safety Institute on systemic AI safety.
At the AI Seoul Summit on 22nd May, the UK government announced grants for researchers to study protection against AI risks such as deepfakes and cyberattacks, while also leveraging AI benefits such as increased productivity. The most promising proposals will be developed into long-term projects with potential for additional funding.
The programme will be led within the UK government’s AI Safety Institute by Shahar Avin, who will be joining the UK’s Institute on secondment and Christopher Summerfield, UK AI Safety Institute Research Director. It will be conducted in partnership with UK Research and Innovation and The Alan Turing Institute, aiming for international collaboration with other AI safety institutes.
