Bertrand Guillaume

Bertrand was educated at the Ecole Normale Supérieure and at the Paris Institute of Technology, where he received his Ph.D. He is now an Associate Professor of Epistemology and History of Science and Technology at the Troyes University of Technology, where he successively served as the director of the Research Centre for Environmental Studies and Sustainability, and the Department of Humanities, Environment and Technology. Grounded in environmental humanities, his research is about environmental foresight, the epistemology of socio-ecological modeling, and the philosophical and anthropological foundations of sustainability, with a particular inquiry into the Anthropocene. Bertrand is an elected member of the French National University Council.

During his time at CSER, he will work on the philosophy of global environmental catastrophic risks and the long-term ethics of technology in the face of existential risks.
