Whilst working in the Operations Room of HM Coastguard, Craig wanted to advance his undergraduate emergency management studies which took him to complete a masters in Disaster Management with Bournemouth University Disaster Management Centre. For his dissertation, the concepts of cascading risk and system failure were applied to explore the relationships between space-based position, navigation and timing (PNT, i.e. GPS) and maritime ports systems. This led to his current role as Space Resilience Manager with UK Space Agency.
At the UK Space Agency, Craig develops the policy area to better understand the role space infrastructure has in the system-of-systems that is required to facilitate modern social, economic and national security functions. Along with this, he works with the wider team to identify, understand, mitigate and prepare for hazards and threats to commercial space infrastructure.
During his time with CSER, he will support the development of the Synthesis Insights for the Management and Mitigation of Escalating Risk (SIMMER) programme which utilises the UK national risk of disruption of space services as the test subject. In addition to this, he can offer insights into critical infrastructure thinking and operational responses from serving as a Coastguard and Firefighter. He also has an interest in, and conducted some studies, into the experiences of emergency volunteers
